Most historic buildings were not originally designed to accommodate people with disabilities. Providing access (interior and exterior) for persons with disabilities in ways that preserve the character of the historic property is a challenge that requires creativity and collaboration. Although we still have much work to do to be fully accessible, we do offer the following and welcome you to the museum. We will update this page as we make improvements.
Visitor Reception Centre
- Designated accessible parking spaces
- Our roads and pathways are hard packed gravel
- Ramp to main building
- Seating is available both inside the main visitor centre and on the property
- A wheelchair is available for visitor use (first come, first serve)
- Accessible washrooms
- All publicly accessible washrooms are single occupancy and gender-neutral (VRC, Gift Shop, Exhibit Centre) except for the Tea Room.
- The Village Treasures Gift Shop is accessible by ramp.
- Sherbrooke Village is proud to be an Aira Access Partner.
Historic Buildings
- There are 30 historic buildings on onsite that are open to the public.
- Most of the buildings have a ramp or level entry to the main floor but a few buildings only have steps.
- Upper floors are only accessible via wooden staircases, but pictures of these rooms are available, and staff are on hand to share stories and answer questions
- Interpreters are on the street each day (Rovers) conducting guided tours throughout the Village. Visitors who don't have full access to all floors in all buildings can be treated to a guided tour with complete Village information and stories throughout their tour.
Outdoor Park
- Sherbrooke Village has a new accessible park at with packed pathways, accessible picnic tables, benches and "Free Little Library." Stop by and have a rest or a picnic.
