Our Living Museum
Anchored along the banks of the St. Mary’s River, Sherbrooke Village is more than a museum—it’s a step into Nova Scotia’s storied past, brought to life through its people, its places, and its traditions. Here, history isn’t locked behind glass; it’s woven into every cedar shingl, every workshop, and every story shared.
At Sherbrooke Village, we believe history should be felt, not just seen. Our mission is to preserve and share the heritage of Nova Scotia’s Victorian era while creating meaningful, immersive experiences that connect visitors to the past.
Our Story
In the early 1970s, Sherbrooke Village opened its doors with a vision: to protect the spirit of Nova Scotia’s “Golden Age” of tall ships, timber, and gold mining. Over the decades, we’ve grown into a community cornerstone, welcoming generations of visitors and enriching lives through storytelling, craftsmanship, collaboration, and shared traditions.
A Living Museum
What makes Sherbrooke Village unique? We are a living museum, Nova Scotia’s largest in fact. Our Village is a place where you don’t just observe history; you engage with it. Our costumed interpreters invite you to step into their shoes: forge iron in a blacksmith’s shop, weave textiles at the loom, or try your hand at turning clay in the pottery studio. It’s an experience as authentic as it is unforgettable.
Rooted in Community
Sherbrooke Village isn’t just a destination; it’s a cornerstone of the community it calls home. Forged from the coals of hospitality and culture, our Village reflects the heart, history, and people of St. Mary’s.
We partner with local artisans and purveyors to showcase their craft, host vibrant events that bring neighbors together, and share stories that celebrate the enduring connection between the past and present. From hands-on workshops to lively festivals, every gathering is a testament to the spirit of collaboration and the timeless charm of our region.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong resident, Sherbrooke Village stands as a welcoming space where community thrives, traditions endure, and stories come to life.
Historic Sherbrooke Village Development Society

Under this legislation, public sector organizations are required to report the name and amount of compensation for employees who earn $100,000 or more each year. The information must be disclosed in an audited statement, and must be posted to a publicly-accessible website.
Due to Sherbrooke Village Museum not having any employees making over $100,000 we are required to have the following statement posted on our website.
Sherbrooke Restoration Commission Travel/Expenses
