Five Hour Forge

Become a Blacksmith’s Apprentice for a day! You will make 2 forged pieces with your own two hands under the watchful eye of our Village Blacksmith.  

Experience includes:

  • Immerse yourself in history as you spend the day in our authentic blacksmith shop complete with the coal-fired forge and the sounds of iron being pounded on the original anvil.
  • Learn introductory blacksmithing techniques and safe handling from our skilled heritage artisan
  • Create two unique handmade projects that will remind you of the inspiration you found while discovering the traditional art of blacksmithing
  • Explore Sherbrooke Village: Take a self-guided tour of authentic Sherbrooke Village, Nova Scotia’s largest Provincial Museum, where costumed interpreters bring to life the 1860s- when the village was a prosperous boom town.

Interested in learning the traditional art of the forge in a fun and educational atmosphere? Our Five Hour Forge is a day you won’t soon forget. This day-long workshop offers participants the immersive opportunity to work as a traditional blacksmith’s apprentice. Once you complete your functional hook in the morning, the blacksmith will help inspire your afternoon’s creation.

Dates: Fridays and Saturdays- August 1 - October 3 (Must be booked in advance)

Time: 10:00-4pm

Price: $125 per person (+HST). Includes all materials used for 2 projects and use of tools during the program

Cancellation policy:  Cancellations made less than 3 days prior are non-refundable. Participants will be notified 48 hours in advance if program is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Good to know: Program will take place rain or shine. Please check in at the Visitor Reception Centre by 9:45am to get directions to your workshop. Space is limited to 4 participants per day. Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Be advised you will be exposed to high temperatures around the forge and working with sharp tools. Basic safety gear will be provided. Ages 9 and older must be accompanied by an adult. . Lunch is on your own; pack a picnic or dine at our McDaniel’s Tearoom & Restaurant onsite.
